It’s for real!

Okay so the proverbial cat is finally out of it’s bag, and the news that my girlfriend Katherine (Katy) Gerdes is an up and coming fashionista isn’t really news anymore, it’s just the facts of life.

After having to keep my mouth shut for so long I can finally spill the beans without fear of reprimand, Katy is going to be a T.V. Superstar starting this July (the 12th to be exact) while she struts her stuff on Bravo TVs Project Runway. (watch out this site is a horrendous overly complicated flash-mess!) Congratulations Katy, though I’ll admit I was never really surprised.

For those of you who don’t already know Project Runway is a competition based reality T.V. show in which contestants pit themselves against the clock, each other, and well a slew of other things in order to be the contestant who at the end of each challenge can present the most impressive, thought out, and complete design to a panel of 4 judges on the runway. Contrary to what we’ve all come to expect form Reality T.V. however Project Runway is actually quite entertaining, suspenseful, and overall very interesting. Perhaps because they rely on the competition itself and the stress inherent in the very complicated things the designers are tasked with to create drama instead of the typical sex, drugs, and Flava-Flav, Project Runway has always stood out as one of the better shows on T.V.

In fact, if you know me, you know that I rarely watch T.V., and never to the point where I’m actually excited about sitting on the couch at time X on day Y in order to see what happens next. If it’s on in the background fine, I’ll never turn it on myself, but it doesn’t bother me. Last winter however I got pretty into the 2nd Season of Project Runway, and even made plans to not do anything a couple of times just so I could watch it. I don’t think I’ve avoided life in order to watch T.V. for anything since 5th or 6th grade when I had to make it to my Grandma’s after school in time to catch Animaniacs.

Katy and I are currently working getting a website going, something that probably should have been done a while ago, but as with almost everyone of the websites I’ve worked on in the last 3 years there’s always something that some part of the timeline that just doesn’t fall into place. Either way though, there’s a temporary page up now (which I might add is pretty cool), and you can sign up there to get a notice when the official site goes live in the next week or so. I can’t say much about it, but I will say that I love Textpattern and now that the 4.0 versions are out and the documentation is finally getting up to speed it is a pleasure to develop with.

So, you’re probably wondering if I’ve got any words of advice that will help you placing your bets on who’s going to be “America’s next top designer”, no not really. I can however help you out with a list of “Katy watching tips”. So while you’re watching Project Runway this summer keep your eye out for Katy doing or saying some of the following things.

• “douche!”
• Dancing, potentially as a way to distract, and or compete with others. Read “Dance Off!”
• Tapping her foot, if she does it a lot and quickly she’s nervous about something.
• “Drop one down!”
• Watch for shirts featuring the design’s of Twin Six
• “KAH!” – Weaslehawks

And finally, before I get back to work. Katy good luck! I know from experience that if nothing else you’ll at least make a great T.V. personality.
