When I quite smoking a little over two months ago one of the things I did to motivate myself was to say, “Joe, if you can make it through this first month you can use the money you would have spent to buy smokes and buy yourself a new toy instead.” At first I wasn’t sure what I would get, the possibilities where endless, or at least anything with in the ~$150-200 dollar range.
Finally after much debate I decided that I was pretty interested in purchasing one of those new fangled handheld gaming devices as I’d never owned anything of the sort before, and though it just might be fun. After spending some time doing research on both I decided on the “Nintendo DS”: http://www.nintendo.com/channel/ds over “Sony’s PSP”: http://www.us.playstation.com/psp.aspx for two reasons. The DS was slightly cheaper than the PSP, though not really enough to warrant making my decision solely on that. It also had a catalog of games that I was more interested in playing, and a homebrew community that looks to be very promising.
That was about a month and a half ago, and just before I was getting ready to buy one I learned that Nintentdo was going to be releasing a new version of the DS, the DS Lite, which was smaller, better looking, and had much brighter screens. So I waited …, and waited, and last Sunday I got one of these bad boys.

Animal Crossing and Tetris DS, here I come!.
